Xander is mad about sandwiches. So much so, he’s made it his mission to eat and photograph all the best ones in London. Xander believes that too often people underrate his favourite format of food. Living by the mantra that sandwiches are so much more than just bread and fillings, Xander uses his Instagram to celebrate the joys of what is arguably the most quintessentially British dish. In his Trippin list, Xander gives us his top 5 ultimate sandwich recommendations, his views on the London food scene and even shares his ultimate tip for making the tastiest sarnie every time…
When did your love of the sandwich begin?
When didn’t it? Us Brits are brought up on the things, whether that’s bolognese in bread or peanut butter and banana, we live and breathe sandwiches. They are items of comfort and hold sentimental value.
What’s your ultimate sandwich filling?
Do you know what, I love a good tuna mayo. I love to add in raw red onion and cubes on avocado for decadence. The bread: chewy crusted, soft white bloomer.
Do you have any secret tips for making the perfect sandwich?
Think textures. My good mate Max, from Max’s Sandwich Shop, sums it up perfectly: hot, cold, sweet, sour, crunchy, soft. Tick all those boxes and no matter what you throw in, you’re onto a winner.
If you were a sandwich what would you be?
I think I’d be a schnitzel sandwich. Either that, or a pork belly bao
What do you love the most about London?
Choice. Whatever the weather, you can pretty much get any cuisine. Move from one tube stop to another and you can move from Lebanese to Eritrea – I bloody love it
What’s been your wildest Trippin/ travelling adventure ever?
I travelled around Argentina last year on my tod and the highlight had to be riding horseback with a glass of Malbec in Mendoza.
Apart from phone and passport (obviously) what are your travel essentials?
Cut-throat razor, factor 15 and a pair of trunks. I’m a chilled traveller.

At the moment I can’t get enough of ‘We Fell For Miles’ by a band called Toucan. Insane.
