Haifa with art collective, Broken Fingaz

The Broken Fingaz crew are an art collective comprised of members Unga, Deso, Tant & Kip, born and bred in Haifa, northern Israel. From graffiti to galleries, murals to music videos, the crew continue to push boundaries as well as buttons with their psychedelic style and politically charged works.

Compared to Tel Aviv, it’s much smaller and the scene is more sleepy and laid back, but it also feels more real and more connected to the Middle East. Haifa is a mixed Palestinian city, and for the Arabs, it is the cultural centre of Israel. It has some similarities to Jerusalem, being on a mountain and with this Arab-Jewish mix, but it’s much more chilled as we don’t have the religious lunatics here. We also have the beach to calm everyone the fuck down.

Breada

"Start the day here. Daniello is the best baker around. Eat sandwich and listen to dancehall."

Kabareet

"Bar/night club at the centre of the Arab underground scene. Feels very local,p0-9 but also international."

@kabareet

Flea Market Haifa

"A good place to find cheap shit, you need to be ready to get dirty though. It is the opposite of glamour, and sometimes you’re not sure if it is a stand, or just a homeless person with their belongings."

Michelle Falafel

"If you’re into Green Falafel (as opposed to yellow), the city divides to two camps - Falafel Michel and Falafel Hazkenim. We are of course with the first, as we have tasted the truth."

Bat Galim

"For surfing, this spot is the only beach in the country facing north and can get some really good waves in the winter."

Bat Galim Casino

"Once a casino and swimming pool in the 1950s, it’s since become a known graffiti chill spot for locals. It’s closed after someone fell from the roof. It’s a landmark or an eyesore, depending on your point of view – which goes for a lot of Haifa’s sights."

Talpiot Market

"Seafood restaurant located in Haifa's market, great food, great wine and a very local/down to earth vibe."

Maayan Habira

"A 60 year-old Romanian restaurant, a spot to eat lunch with your grandparents, good beer, tons of garlic and mystery meats."

Find them here.

Ha-Namal Street

"A street in the downtown of Haifa by the port, where you can find a lot of murals by local and international artists as part of the annual Walls Festival."

Hecht Park

"A nice long boardwalk on the beach where you can also find the skatepark."

Brakha Sandwich Bar

"The oldest sandwich place in Haifa with more than 40 years experience. Definitely the best sandwich in the country!"

Bustan Khayat

"You can find here the wadi siah (natural fountain). Above the Haifa cemetery, there is a tiny old Arab village and a small path going up the mountain leading to a magical spot surrounded by trees. There’s a hole in the rocks (2 people can fit in) with fresh water coming from the bottom of the mountain."
