Safe Space
Safe Space was founded by actor and advocate Carys Daniels (she/her) after witnessing the rise of transphobia in the media. "I knew I couldn’t stay silent. My values stood in direct opposition to the dehumanising messages being pushed," she tells Trippin. "I realised that one of the most powerful ways to respond was by mobilising the very spaces that would feel this impact most: local businesses. If we could get these businesses to speak up, to show visible, vocal allyship, it would send a clear message. Not just to those spreading hate, but to trans people who urgently need to
hear something different: You are seen. You are supported."
A safe space is defined by being welcoming to trans people just as they are, and how they wish to identify, without facing discrimination or "debate". It is also a place where they can feel safe and protected from harm and harassment, and access services that affirm their identities.
