Newly open at one of my favourite clubs in Amsterdam, Garage Noord. Authentic Sichuan food with fab cocktails and a terrace as well. The club opens at midnight so you can burn the calories off with a dance!

Also known as 'the queen of johnnycakes', which are Caribbean snacks. You can find her stand in multiple locations in southeast Amsterdam. Tip: they also do vegan johnnycakes with different fillings!

Authentic Ethiopian restaurant. Great for sharing meals, especially the injera with all toppings. They also have great fruit-flavoured beers and coffee.

Being a part of the ballroom community, I notice how hard it is to have access to spaces to practice or get together. Cultural centre Nowhere has facilitated its space to the community for many years. There are classes every week from members of the Dutch ballroom scene as well as organised get-togethers by The Living Room.

A household east London spot and everyone’s go-to spot. It’s a perfect place for me to visit after an event in the area or in between a studio session. The name alone represents the homely feel of the restaurant as you’ll always see a familiar Ghanaian face when you walk in. Aunty Kate's is famous for the waakye, which is a traditional Ghanaian dish: a mixture of rice and beans and a rich stew accompanied with a meat of your choice. You can’t eat all of that without washing it down with a ‘Ghanaian Fanta’ bottle – if you know, you know.

The perfect Friday night spot for food in north London. This is where we’d go before we step out on the weekend to line our stomachs. I always go for something light and easy here because I need to watch my figure before stepping out – that’s why yam and chofi is my go-to (a Ghanaian snack accompanied with turkey tail). It fills you up, but not to the point of you wanting to sleep. I always grab this with a bottle of Supermalt and that’s me sorted for the night.

This isn’t your typical restaurant as it’s known for its party vibes just as much as the flavoursome food. This is somewhere I go to when the Ghana team are playing football, or when there’s a big televised event going on. The vibes are unmatched. Being in the middle of south London (who claim to be the best vibes in London – I beg to differ), you’ll definitely enjoy yourself spending an evening there. Their best dish has to be fufu and light soup; nobody makes it like them (except for my mum). You have to go there well-equipped with an empty stomach as you’ll definitely be leaving there full.

If you’re from south London you’ll know about this restaurant as everyone from every background goes there for a cheeky jollof and chicken. I got put onto Asafo by my Nigerian friend which is something in itself. There’s always an atmosphere in there, being in the heart of Brixton, and you’ll never find the place empty. I will always have time for a meal there.

Auntie Nana’s is a great local spot based in east London. It’s one of my favourite spots. Every Sunday you’ll be greeted with family and friends vibing to Afrobeats. The banku and okro with meat is hands down their best meal. The okro is nice and slimy, mouthwatering and packed with loads of meat. This combined with the local peach-flavoured Alvaro is a deadly combination.

This restaurant surely lives up to its name as it’s praised for its perfect kenkey, which most get alongside fried fish. Situated in the home of UK Ghanaians (Tottenham) I haven’t actually stepped foot inside to get the full experience, but I pinched a few bites of my cousin’s meal once and I instantly put it down on my list of places to visit in the future. It almost tasted as good as my mum’s!

Both an in-house brand and textile gallery shop, 100% Silk curates emerging *slow fashion* designers from around the world. They also work with local artists like GUNNAR to bring their retail experience on another level – very conceptual.

Follow the lights up to the second-floor for this classic Chinatown karaoke bar. Think neon lights, pleated leather couches in private rooms, and considerably late drink service.

A Black-owned business conceptualized and operated by CHIEFF BOSOMPRA, who runs event collective UNDISPOSABLE, in collaboration with Canadian Top Chef Adrian Forte. We reco the Accra burger + fries combo, an ode to Chieff’s hometown in Ghana.

Authentic Japanese homestyle vibes here – soft lights and natural wood tones help you get cozy until you realize you’ve been there for hours. Ask about their secret vinyl room downstairs where they play rare groove and Japanese city pop.

Black-owned business. The wife-and-husband duo fuse Jamaican and Italian cuisine together in a cozy spot in the heart of our eclectic Kensington Market. Local community vibes – look for the spot with the lineup and a grill out front.

Tucked inside P.A.T., a local grocery store in the heart of Koreatown, this cash-only stall gets lineups of people deliberating on whether they should get sweet custard or red bean-filled homemade waffles shaped like lil fishies.

Go here for contemporary menswear like Our Legacy, Eckhaus Latta, BODE, and Margaret Howell. The Toronto space has a showroom vibe that showcases the Neighbour world really well, which also includes a variety of household items and found objects alongside print publications from the likes of IDEA.

Hanlan’s Point is an inclusive space and a short ferry ride away to escape the city. Clothing optional :)

Canada's oldest boxing gym. Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Lennox Lewis have stepped into Sully's to train. Coach Tony is a Black trainer and former heavyweight champ – he might even drop some boxing history if you're nice. Iconic.

Authentic vintage clothing experience here – no curated boutique showroom or displays. There are some real deadstock finds if you dig deep enough in some of the mountains of clothes. Also good for military surplus goods, costume and props, and a lil role play.

Niche rental store for obscure cinema on vhs and dvd. There are some titles you just can’t find online that they carry, ranging from B-movie blaxploitation to Takashi Miike deep cuts. They also have a small screening room in the back for rent if you ever thought of setting up a private screening dedicated to Hype Williams or whoever.

Indo-Caribbean family-owned business. This lil everyday convenience store has a very small, unassuming room in the back that sells a bunch of different santería love charms and all the Yoruban orisha candles to help you find love, give you strength and protect you from enemies. This is a Parkdale gem tbh - if you know you know.
