Where to Find Anti-Racism Protests and Meetings in the UK
Far-right fascism has reared its ugly head across the UK in the form of targeted violence towards minorities. We’ve compiled a list of anti-racism protests and marches for our UK audience.
Unrest has erupted across the UK, and a slew of hotels housing asylum seekers and refugees have been subjected to violent attacks from the far-right. Black, Asian and brown minorities have been attacked in the streets, with far-right extremists targeting the country’s Muslim communities in particular. They claim the violence is a response to the stabbing of three girls that took place in Southport on 29 July.
The identity of the suspect behind the Southport stabbing was initially undisclosed, and disinformation circulated, claiming that a Muslim immigrant – allegedly named Ali Al-Shakati – was behind the attack. This is false information, and far-right extremists are leveraging this as a reason to launch attacks on minorities in the UK.
At Trippin, we support the movement of people around the world. We believe that movement – and therefore travel – allows us to appreciate different cultures, and that our cultural differences make the world a more enriching place.
Stand Up to Racism UK has called for a day of mass protest this Saturday, on 10 August. For our UK audience, below is a list of anti-racism marches and meetings you can join. We recognise that for some – particularly for people of colour – you may feel unsafe doing so. While it’s important to make a stand against racism, it’s also OK if you don’t attend out safety precautions. There are other ways to show support.
If you do attend a protest, however, we recommend exercising caution. Liberty Human Rights has produced protest bust cards in collaboration with Migrants Organise and Black Protest Legal Support, which you can download here. For our wider, global audience and those staying at home, we’ve highlighted the charities that you can donate to.
