The End of an Era in Copenhagen’s Underground Music Scene - Posh Isolation Closes
While Copenhagen’s reputation as a hub of the avant-garde may seem timeless, it’s the work of independent labels and producers that has driven the Danish capital’s creative and left-field scene. After 16 years, the label and promoter Posh Isolation has announced its closure, sending shockwaves through the electronic music world, both locally and abroad.
Founded in 2009 by friends Christian Stadsgaard and Loke Rahbek, Posh Isolation was born from a commitment to local, experimental sounds, fostering a community of artists who have pushed the boundaries of electronic music on a global scale.
More than just a label, Posh Isolation has been a driving force in Copenhagen’s underground scene, providing a platform for artists to connect and collaborate. Its close ties with venues like Mayhem—an essential space for experimental music and DIY culture—have helped cultivate an environment where new sounds and artistic expressions can flourish, enriching the city’s cultural fabric.
Beyond Denmark, Posh Isolation has gained international recognition for its distinctive approach to music and art. The label’s extensive catalogue, with over 200 physical releases, includes works from culturally influential artists such as Lust For Youth, Croatian Amor, and Puce Mary. Through these efforts, Posh Isolation has not only shaped Copenhagen’s cultural identity but has also made a lasting impact on the global appreciation of experimental music and art.
The label’s closure marks the end of a defining chapter in Copenhagen’s musical history. But there is hope in its parting message: "Perhaps by putting the label to sleep, Posh can be what it always was most of all: a working collective."
As a thank-you to fans and supporters, the label has announced two farewell parties in Copenhagen:
