Set in a Defunct Power Plant, Helsinki's Flow Gets Big Names With Small-Scale Feel

From August 14-16, Flow Festival takes over the historic Suvilahti Power Plant in downtown Helsinki, to create one of Europe's best mid-sized fests.

Situated in the centre of the Finnish capital famed for its sauna culture, modernist architecture and minimalist design, Flow Festival is one of Europe's northernmost urban festivals.

Flow has made an international name for its deep commitment to environmental sustainability, in keeping with the city's historic accomplishment as one of the world's cleanest capitals: Helsinki has reduced its emissions by nearly one third since 1990 and is on track to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.


As a mid-size festival, Flow manages to bring big name headliners to a more intimate setting; yet the stadium names on the line up are balanced with a slew of experimental and underground acts. This year features rock veterans Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, French avant-pop artist Oklou and legendary hip hop duo Clipse, as well as New York's James K, raptor house pioneer DJ Babatr and the enigmatic Voice Actor, who makes her Finnish debut.
