Exhibition: Black Venus: Reclaiming Black Women in Visual Culture
Curated by Aindrea Emelife, BLACK VENUS brings together the work of 18 Black women and non-binary artists to explore the othering, fetishisation and reclamation of narratives around Black femininity.
BLACK VENUS celebrates and explores the many faces of Black femininity, with over 40 contemporary and primarily photographic artworks. The exhibition’s contemporary works offer a radical affront to a centuries-long dynamic of objectification, showcasing all that Black womanhood can be and has always been.

Listening Experience: Devon Turnbull @ Lisson Gallery
Presented in London for the first time, the Brooklyn-based speaker sculptor and sound guru, Devon Turnbull – aka OJAS – introduces HiFi Listening Room Dream No. 1, a free, drop-in experience for all to surrender to the act of listening, with rare intention, to recorded and live music. Featuring a high-performance, handmade sound system composed of a wall of brutalist speakers, a turntable, a series of amplifiers and seats typically reserved for meditation, this site-specific acoustic setting creates a transformative environment to absorb and reflect.

Day Festival: Body Movements

The ambitious programme is part of Apple’s global Racial Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI) – marking REJI’s expansion into Europe.
Through this partnership, the Southbank Centre and Apple support the skills and ambitions of emerging Black creatives, who for too long have been locked out of opportunities and pathways to careers in the industry.
Reframe provides the technical tools and resources for aspiring young artists and creatives in the UK to develop their own voices and position themselves for long-lasting careers in their chosen fields.

The Hosh is a celebration of unity within and solidarity with the Sudanese community here in London. On Monday 31st July The Hosh host a night of togetherness, curated with Madaniya SDG, who represent the Sudanese diaspora in London. Together they will be serving up traditional Sudanese food, bespoke Henna, sounds of djs from the diaspora and sparking wider community conversation.
