Skiing and snowboarding are part of Swiss life—with slopes a couple of hours' drive from cities like Bern, trips to the Alps are commonplace, whether it's a summer hike or some winter piste action. 

, in particular, is home to some of the world's best terrain, where local restaurants serve hearty alpine food to fuel the day's sporty action.

The white-dominant world of snow sports was never something that deterred artist BombayMami from hitting the powder: “I grew up on the snowboard; I can see the mountains from my house in Bern,” she tells Trippin.

With a Varanasi father and a Bernese mother, BombayMami grew up between 

 and Switzerland, embracing both sides of her heritage—whether it's repping South Asian fashion or honing her alpine sports skills—or doing both at the same time. "The combination of an Indian outfit on the slopes is something we haven't seen before. I think that is what is attractive about it, the two cultural worlds."

BombayMami has never felt alienated or alone on the slopes and often goes boarding with a 

diverse crew of friends from different backgrounds

. She gives us her guide to her favourite Swiss mountain areas.

It’s great for beginners, a beautiful place with incredible scenery. There’s hiking and skiing, and it’s a gateway to the Jungfrau region, which is home to a famous mountain. It’s honestly an exceptional area to visit.

The après-ski here is fun, and it's close, which is a plus. The Bernese Oberland is just an hour and a half away at most, making it super convenient. There are also great spas—I haven’t tried many, but I’ve heard good things.

I went there two months ago. It’s so vast, with so many different slopes and ski lifts. The food is also important! My favourite is this alpine macaroni, which is mac and cheese done the Swiss way with apple mousse. I love it.

There's a different vibe in the French part of Switzerland; people are different. Wherever you go in Switzerland, the German side, the French side, or the Italian side, there's a different vibe. You just feel like every time you’re in a different country to be honest!

Where all the fancy things happen. The rich and the famous go here. So, if you’re looking for those bougie parties, go to St Moritz, but go to Aldoborden for something local and chilled.
