Area Noir & Tope Ajayi

Area Noir is a London-based online gallery which prides itself on showcasing the art of many talented emerging Black and Brown artists from around the world. One of these artists is Ibadan-based contemporary artist Tope Ajayi whose works speaks to Afro-centricism, Afro-futurism and Afro-surrealism. His work combines various mediums; from traditional art, digital art, photography, audio and film.

Based in Ibadan, Tope takes us on a tour of his favourite places and spaces to experience art in the city. He explained to us, "the art scenes in Ibadan aren't the electrifying type at first encounter. It's the kind that slowly draws you in and immerses you." His guide gives you an insiders perspective into the scene and all there is to experience -- from cultural centres hosting poetry nights to peaceful lake settings to get your creative energy flowing.
