Kadek Merta Dwi Guna

Blacksmith / Adrenaline Junkie

Kadek Merta Dwi Guna is from Singaraja, North Bali and was raised in Denpasar. He’s always loved extreme sports—his first loves were skateboarding and bmxing—and now big into surfing, boxing and dirt biking.

He works with Sounds Familiar Knives, a blacksmith dedicated to making farm knives and tools. His family have made agricultural knives since the 1900s for agricultural use, yet were forced to repair weapons for the PKI communist regime in the 1960s.

When democracy was restored, the family returned to knife-making for agricultural purpose. Kadek is now the fifth generation to run the company, and is also part of the FED, a collective of Balinese chefs that prioritise sustainability and are guided by ancestral agricultural practice.
