Nextones Returns to One of Europe’s Most Distinctive Festival Landscapes
Unfolding around a former granite quarry in Italy's Ossola valley, Nextones Festival is known for its mediated and exploratory approach to mapping sound against territory. It returns in July with the first acts now confirmed.
The 13th edition of Nextones will return from 16 - 19 July, with a series of different site-specific performances taking place across the Ossola valley in northern Italy, roughly 2-hour drive from Milan. Sites of immersive listening and performance include the modern thermal baths of Premia, the natural canyons of Orridi di Uriezzo, the ruins of medieval village Ghesc, and, for the first time, the 17th century oratory of San Marco in the hamlet of Veglio.
The first waves of acts include a collaboration between Egyptian singer and poet Abdullah Miniawy & French producer Simo Cell, who will present their 'Dying is the Internet' work that combines Miniawy's poised Arabic melisma and lyrical delivery with Cell's left-field club sounds.
Italian producer Alessandro Adriani has teamed up with choreographer Ariella Vidach for 'Koppelia' to reimagine comic ballet Coppélia with E.T.A. Hoffmann’s romantic folk horror story, The Sandman. Cafe OTO regular Daniel Blumberg will perform a live piano concert, fresh from his Oscar-winning triumph for scoring The Brutalist.
At Nextones, each performance is wrought in dialogue with the landscape
Other acts announced include Basel based DJ collective Somatic rituals, American fingerstyle guitarist Shane Paris, London's own OK Williams and eclectic Belgian DJ Nosedrip.
