How to tap into Sydney's underground scene, according to producer and multi-instrumentalist Skeleten.

Skeleten is an artist whose work is intrinsically tied to his environment: Sydney, Australia. Formerly a member of the electronic duo Fishing, Skeleten – real name Russell Fitzgibbon – has also played with Australian live acts such as Babitha (the solo project of Sydney-based artist Imogen Grist) and Vlossom.

As someone who's immersed in the scene, we asked Skeleten to share his knowledge on how to tap into Sydney's underground hubs. The scene has had a rebirth, the artist tells us. Here's how you can experience what's new for a scene that's been in flux.

An incredible architectural art space that curates a really exciting and broad programme of new music and performance in 'the nest'. Always free via a ballot system. It's a beautiful space to enter and seeing performances there is always really unique and memorable.

My favourite pie in Sydney and a warm, communal vibe tucked under Central Station. Run by some local heroes there's always a smiling face and a great lineup of DJs soundtracking your slice in a really welcoming space.

Mainstay of the Sydney club world, 77 has kept up with the times and is programming great lineups all week with good Funktion 1 sound.. They've got a strong community attitude and are really active in promoting safe and respectful clubbing.

A community-run space in a lovely old Salvation Army church in Petersham. They run markets, performances, readings, workshops – all with an open and exciting vibe. One of my favourite new places to see what's on.

One of my favourite dining experiences in town. In a Marrickville warehouse with a lovely ethos reflecting and celebrating the migrant experience in Sydney. Menu is hot and fuses a bunch of cuisines with a really fun don't-give-a-fuck attitude, and the place is always buzzed and alive.
