Lazare Hoche

At the forefront of the Parisian house scene is the city's very own resident nightbird, Lazare Hoche. Taking his name from a revolutionary leader in 18th century France, his position at the forefront of the scene is not far off to the latter's. You could also say music runs in his blood, with his French-Lebanese clan of composers, harp-players and singer-songwriters all held nearly and dearly. With over a decade experience of producing and DJing internationally and locally, it only seems apt to come to him for the best places to spend your evenings in Paris. This is the symbol of my current area - the 9th district of Paris. Originally opened in 1879, the biggest renovation took place in 1926; the magnificent gold Art Deco 'bas-relief' reflects the sun on surrounding streets. This theatre also hosted one of my favorite TV Shows from the 90’s called “double jeu”.

The Lebanese restaurant of my aunt - featured in the guide michelin - is a family food display, with generous portions, a warm atmosphere and a lot of personality. Located in a very random and residential area, this place is not the usual tourist trap; it's a secret weapon. It's what we love best - Lebanese gastronomy.

Back in the 9th district of Paris, very few people know that there's a Tunisian food scene here. I’m obviously from Lebanon, but Tunisian food is kind of a non-hidden love affair. Some of them, open since the 70’s, are still going and proud. La Boule Rouge has got it all. A true favorite of all the kemia enthusiasts and couscous nerds. The homemade tuna meshouia is the real deal here. No fancy vibes here or “wanna-be hipsters”, but a very comfortable family feeling as soon as you enter the place.

For record shops, it's pretty much around the center-east side of Paris, where you will find all types of stores, with great selections. My favorite one is this one; Melik, the owner, is one of the finest listeners and selectors of the city.

This is a cultural explosion in Paris. It's thrown on a Thursday night in the infamous Pigalle area. It’s an extension of all your fantasies at once; curated by the mighty DJ Dorion. The vibe is mind blowing, the music selection and people are eclectic, the performers and the show are authentic and fine-tuned.

Legend is the party of DJ Deep in Paris since 1997. It's the purest NYC House vibe you can get in Europe. This shot is the infamous, Kerri Chandler, doing what he does best in Rex in August 2019.

Sylvere

Known for his global blend of UK funky, dancehall, grime, body-moving techno and Francophone Afrobeats, the Trax Couture and Sans Absence affiliate has been creating a buzz across the Parisian nightlife scene.

Born to a Martinican father and French mother, Sylvere was raised in Paris and has roots in the West Indies. Across the airwaves, you can catch him on Rinse France, and in Paris you can find him at his residency at the inclusivity-focused club night La Créole.

Sylvere's heavyweight sound pulls from his heritage and Caribbean sound system culture in particular, which he demonstrates across his three-part EP series for Monkeytown Records. While 

saw him explore dancehall-flavoured belters and kinetic, off-kilter sonics with playful melodies, his latest release, 

sees the Parisian producer drill down into a punchier, darker sound that's built for those late (or early) hours across cavernous dancefloors. The bass pressure scorches and heaves harder, but tracks such as 

show his flair for creating brighter textures too.

The producer is an artist whose vision extends beyond France. However, he certainly knows where the best raves are in Paris too. From old stations to chic David Lynch-designed spaces, Sylvere highlights his top five clubs.

The techno temple since the 90s, next to the Grand Rex of Paris. An excellent programme for techno lovers, bass music and more. This is where I recently did my 'EP3' release party alongside Ehua, Low Jack and Le Diouck.

Based in Pigalle, this is a massive club under the Moulin Rouge. From a DJ's point of view, for me, it's one of the best clubs in Paris. I love playing there, whether it's in the main room or the basement.

This club is located in Montreuil, just outside Paris. I couldn't fail to mention this club because it's where the official La Créole parties take place. Now there's also the Machine du Moulin Rouge. Let's face it, the sound system is far from exceptional, but events are cool and the atmosphere is nice – especially at La Créole nights.

One of the most underground clubs in Paris, this one is an old Gare station on Paris' periphery. The festival offers a cool and eclectic programme.

Finally, the famous club designed by David Lynch. The entry can be selective, the sound is pretty good and the design is worth a visit. This one is often the club where fashion week events take place.
