Tiny Czech Fest Creepy Teepee Is An Inclusive Celebration Built On Resistance And Friendship
From 11– 13 July, the independent, artist-run festival returns to central Czechia for a weekend of sonic experimentation and forward thinking music.
Taking place in a schoolyard in Kutná Hora, the High School Backyard of Voršily Monastery, Creepy Teepee stands out as a rare oddity among the festival circuit. Small in size, its intimacy fosters a strong community feel, prioritising collectivity and creative expression while showcasing niche and eclectic artists across the globe.
"A space for collective dreaming, we stand against fascism oppression, cop culture, gatekeeping and borders"
Creepy Teepee remains gleefully DIY and fiercely resistant in spirit. Now in its 15th year, this independent, artist-run festival fosters a welcoming environment that prioritises friendship and inclusivity, with queer-positive values. "This is a space for collective dreaming, we stand against fascism oppression, cop culture, gatekeeping and borders" they write on their website.
This year's edition features a range of artists including PC Music affiliate UMRU, who brings his unique blend of saccharine pop edits and bass-heavy sound design. Boundary-pushing American rapper Cortisa Star also features, alongside singular visual artist and producer Charlie Osborne, among many others.
The festival is easily accessible for international visitors, being only an hour's drive east of Prague. There's cheap accommodation available at a school gym nearby for just €12 per night. No reservation is needed for to bunk at the school, but remember to bring a sleeping bag. Weather-wise, during the daytime you can expect highs of around 25°C, with evening temperatures dropping to a more temperate 14°C.
