Chris Roberts, aka Flamebaster, is a support worker and fire chef from Caernarfon in North Wales. Aside from these two professions, Roberts also produces food-focused TV shows, his latest being the Chris a'r Afal Mawr series on BBC iPlayer. The chef joined us for the first episode of our new Grounded series with Taste Cadets, sharing his knowledge on sustainable and local food resources.

"I believe fire is seared in our DNAs," Roberts said. "Before gas, electric, microwaves and George Foreman grills, we all cooked with fire. I love bringing people together through fire and food, celebrating my local produce inspired by my Patagonian Gaucho forefathers but with loud hip-hop DJs and copious amounts of natural wine."

The chef has extensive knowledge on where to take in the natural wonders of Wales and buy local produce. In his guide he shares his favourite restaurants and spots to unwind in around Cardiff.

I absolutely love this place. Owned by Grace from the Philippines. She is just amazing. What a woman!! Her food is so good. She serves all the greasy spoon classics along with traditional dishes from the south of the Philippines. She introduced me to the best ingredient in the World - Pinakurat, a special vinegar made using fermented coconut nectar, chilli and spices. I loved her food so much I made a take on her ‘Humbá’ over the embers for 200 people in my hometown last Christmas.
