Richie Culver’s Guide to London’s Independent Art Spaces
London's art scene is unpredictable, changing, hurtling in different directions. It's vast and expansive - on one street, you'll find mainstream exhibits at famed institutions, then you'll turn a corner and stumble into a tiny one-room indie gallery decked with blacked out curtains and ambient soundscapes.
Richie Culver is an artist who has moulded his work into the city's range of spaces, shifting mediums. His multifaceted work resists definition, while also making industrial techno and noise music under moniker Quiet Husband.
From Hull, he moved to London when he was a teenager and built up an artistic career in the city from the ground up. "I’ve lived in London over 20 years now. My practice is deeply embedded in London’s shifting cultural infrastructure, spanning both institutional and independent contexts," he tells us. "Although I have no gallery in London, there’s so many spaces and programmes I love."
Ahead of Quiet Husband's set at Frieze Week party NOCTURN AFTERHOURS on Thursday 16th October, he tells us his favourite gallery picks in the city.

“I exhibited at Carlos Ishikawa during Condo 2024, Vanessa is the best in the game in my opinion - not just what she did with Oscar and Issy, but how she has an almost family dynamic with her artists. ”
