Youssef Drissi

The 26-year-old fashion designer maps out his favourite spots in Morocco's largest city.

Youssef Drissi is a young fashion designer emerging from Casablanca's creative scene. After studying fashion design and styling, Drissi worked for several brands whilst creating his own. In 2018, he was awarded the Best Young Designer award at the 2018 International Fashion Festival in Africa.

Last year, he struck out on his own and decided to focus solely on his own brand Late For Work. As an Arab artist in Morocco, Drissi takes inspiration from the contradictions of a traditional society growing in a modern, globalised world. Across his designs, Drissi deconstructs traditional silhouettes; buttons, hems and sleeves are reorganised, reinventing the shape of modern workwear with subtle nods to streetwear.

On his days off, the Casablanca-based designer enjoys buying fresh fish from the port and walking around the city. Below, he lists a range of his favourite spots: from furniture markets to thrift stores and restaurants. Enjoy Casablanca from Drissi's point of view.

Souk Weld Mina

A secondhand furniture market where you can find all types of vintage furnitures, crockery and pieces of art from the last decades. I bought most of my home furniture and decorations from here and I wish I can afford some more vintage designer ones.

Da Nolita

Favorite Italian restaurant in the city, great atmosphere and clientele. Perfect for a date night or a friends catchup over a colourful meal. Start with a spritz, then go for a pizza à la crème de courgette or la parmigiana. Un délice.

Le Béret / La Corniche by Palmerie

Not really into lavish spots in Casablanca but I can admit this is one of the best ocean views in Casablanca. Go at sunset and enjoy a bottle of rosé and their tapas selection.
